SMOKEY BEAR has been denied by a similar distance on both outings so far, but has shaped with enough encouragement in those Windsor contests to suggest he can get off the mark here. Harlequin has joined William Knight, who won a division of this contest last season. River Nymph did well on debut at Salisbury earlier this month and the Cable Bay colt is a half-brother to three winners trained by his handler, while the 200,000gns Dark Angel colt Abnaa rates as the pick of the newcomers.

RIVER NYMPH has the credentials to make up into a useful sprinter, a half-brother to Little Palaver and by a speedy stallion, and he showed enough when third on debut at Salisbury to think he's capable of winning an event like this with the benefit of experience. He can improve past Smokey Bear, who sets the standard, but well-bred newcomers Bruisa and Abnaa are also potential dangers.
